A collaborative effort by the University of Heidelberg and the local Rhein Neckar Zeitung, the talk series “Überlebensstrategien” introduces the interested public to research topics worked on in Heidelberg. Representatives of the Heidelberg-based collaborative research centers (Sonderforschungsbereiche) are giving an insight into current research.

For the Heidelberg Pain Consortium, speaker Rohini Kuner first gave a general introduction, followed by DFG Heisenberg Stipend and Heidelberg Pain Consortium PI Stefan Lechner (Project A01), who spoek about a particular interest of his – silent nociceptors. Finally, Susanne Becker from ZI Mannheim gave a perspective on the psychological mechanisms involved in the successful treatment of acute and chronic pain, such as the placebo and nocebo effects.

Afterwards, the audience had the chance to ask questions, ranging from their own experiences with chronic pain to the biomedical methodologies used in our research.
